He instilled a lifelong love of history in me, knew his subject inside out and his passion was infectious. Grateful for that. Always regretted sampling the bell on my Casio keyboard and playing it to get us out 10 minutes early - Mr. Purcell, I'm sorry. Wish you all the very best, and hope your retirement is full of joy. Thanks for giving me a ghrá for the history.
Fantastic teacher if anyone would listen.. overall great class! .....................................
A nice guy but I can give him a good rating. Too often he let the class get out of hand and didn't eject the one or two it would have taken to let us learn.
Ollie Purcell - what a legend. I can only hope that you are lucky enough that he is still teaching. The Ollster!!
Do you know what? The only time I had fun at School. I have several qualifications but the one I want to do is in History - that is all thanks to Ollie. What better recommendation is there than that??
Loved the man, he knew his history, pity the class had to be full of morans from pass level. More suited to a university role!
He always seemed so nice that I felt bad for him with the way he got treated by the students but he brought it on himself.
Ollie was the main man - too quick to lose the head and throw lads out the the room - more were outside than in - one time a lad brought in a keyboard that sounded like the bell - a ledgend :)
I loved Ollies classes, English & History. The classes were a riot but he did manage to simultaneously lose control of 20 lads while instilling an infectious interest in history.
Has it all! Just can't control a class. Shame, do they not do day courses in this sort of thing?
Ollie was a pure genious - knew history like the back of his hand - pity his ability to control the class had a lot to be desired !!
My history and football coach, coached us to the Dublin Gaelic Football Championship in the late 1980's, My history wasnt as good though! But a good teacher.
The most popular teacher in the school. Absolute gentleman, and a great football coach. He has my unparalleled respect.
very knowledgeable GAA trainer. low key, doesn't seek limelight unlike that large mass of ego McGovern who jumped aboard when our team when we reached croker!
poor ollie, had all the best intentions as a teacher, but generally hadn't a clue how to control a class.
always had great craic in his class...more at his expense than any thing else..
