I had Jim as an English teacher in sixth year. He's definitely one of the best Englishb teachers I've had.
Great knowledge of English and you can tell he's inspired as a writer but tendency to have little to no lesson structure which makes classes tedious.
Also notes aren't as good as you'd expect from someone that teaches in the IOE
Some people wont like his jokes, his tendency to be late for class.. But the fact of the matter is, Jim is a genius. Doesn't use textbooks, and to be fair, isn't the EASIEST person to deal with (as he is brutally honest!) but is a fantastic teaher. One of the best English teachers I've ever had, I didn't feel like I was learning much in his class at times, but trust me - it all comes together when you're presented with a task! I still find myself using what he taught me in college!
great teacher. although almost always 10 mins late for class, and spends another extra 15 minutes trying to set up his computer and projector , but good passion for english, which is what matters for a teacher
Jim is a legend. He fostered my love for the English language and was the best teacher I've ever had in 20 years of education! Was thinking about him and saw these reviews and thought I'd add my two cents! An excellent teacher.
I failed English for 4 years, I spend a few weeks in Lusbys class, I get a b in the Christmas test.
Ok anyone thinking of going to the institute should seriously consider going to jims class because he writes the paper or at least looks at it before the exam, i know, coz he told me last year and I got an A because he told me exactly what poets were coming up! Please be patient with him if your in 5th year
as a teacher he does his job but not much more. bit of a loon but most english teachers are. needs to be more spacific and give some bloody homework. have him for English single text, language and poe
jim lusby was a great teacher. he always gave different perspective on english, and kept it fresh and interesting. what i would say, is that he doesnt hhave enough authority in the classroom to contro
such a sweet guy, if you ask for his help he'll really go out of his way for you
Superb teacher-I was a mature student in the Institute. Try get Jim for Language. Listen to everything this man says. Extremely helpful and pleasant to deal with. Achieved an 'A' with his teaching.
There are those that won't like his delivery, sense of humour or teaching style.......and those people are fools. Best teacher I've ever had.
Wanders off the point and tries to make jokes which aren't that funny. Learnt very little from him. Also a very strict marker.
very good, needs to do more work with quotes for the single text.
great teacher and he has written a book so intellegent
Lusby is so under rated, his language classes were brilliant. His notes were just perfect! great writer too.
he is such a good teacher. really funny. but he makes u wanna do good in english! lol
i hated him in 5th form but in 6th form i loved him.great teacher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Hilarious man and excellent teacher. Can do no wrong in my opinion.
Took me two years to get what Jim was about, but it eventually clicked! Very hard marker, but in my opinion that can be a good thing. Helped me with my essay through email which was sound.
genius writer of english, remains to be seen whether he can actually teach it i think, not up to institute standard
Jim seems to have an incredible nack for understanding English however, little for the class itself. Understanding is unecessary though, in fairness...he's a good teacher.
Absolutly Terriable....I have no idea what we're supposed to be learning in his class???
I just cant understand what this teacher is trying to teach us???
I just cant understand thid guy at all. His teaching leaves alot to be desired. Spends the class trying to be humerous. One word for this guy.......Terriable. : (
Terrible teacher. Refuses to listen to the girls in the class. Can't teach English. Can barely speak English. He has this horribly mathematical approach to teaching English, it just doesn't work.
A really talented teacher in the sense he has exceptional ability as a writer however his commuication skills leave alot be desired, he seems to spend more time belittling the class idiots than doing
Brilliant, fuels creativity-can focus a little on certain people as far as favorites goes. He fits the witty, semi chauvenistic, inspirational male teacher caste. A genius!
Jim Lusby is an incredible teacher. I'm a girl and he did everything he could to help me get my A in the LC. He's fantastic!
Apart from most english teachers, Lusby is actually entertaining. Perhaps not the most egalitarian, but entertaining. Only problem is a lack of lesson structure.
favours the lads but makes English interesting! Loves a good argument!
an excellent teacher,i have him 4 language,drama an poetry,unique approach 2 teaching,but effective,go on the luzmachine!
Jim is a legend, despite being the image of Morrisey. He self-conciously denies liking The Smiths.
alright insulting very close to rippin his head off but you just have ta like him coz he makes english personal and interesting
harsh but fair. very opinionated. great drama teacher
He's a nice guy! favours certain people though and marks very tough!
ehhhh....Very hard marker, ehhhh....good though, can b annoying the way he has favourites but none the less he's good.
Very good teacher, made the paper a lot clearer and answering questions makes sense now.Very practical approach.
really cool clear teacher,I heard he was(used to be) good at football in his prime!!!!!!!
Had him for 3 English sections in 5th yaer. I found him to be good. I didn't choose him this year. Seriously how many times does he say eehhhhh in one class?
Great man!I got an A2.If you knew me you wouldn't have thought for a minute I would have gotten above a B3.He made me believe that I could be good at English!!
Mr. Lusby is three times as cool as every English teacher who is one third as cool!
Ah Jim,somtimes you concentrate too much on form. But Ive learnt somthing new out of every class & even more if you care enough to make the effort.
