Mr. Byrne is a man of incredible wisdom and knowledge, fluent in many languages and a staunch academic. His classes are lecture style and he sends the notes to his students by email - This really helps as you can pay more attention in class without worrying about taking notes. Surprised this man isn't a leading college lecturer, a true man of the arts. Any student is incredibly lucky to have him.
A chap of immense wisdom, never had him a teacher, but helped me out with any questions that I had. This is a very wise man, I am still inspired by this words 25 years later. Also one of the few teachers that treated you like a person.
Great guy , knows how to have a laugh and also doesn't demand much respect. Extremely laid back and very smart. Knows everything.
Fabulous teacher, a great thinker. Wasted in secondary school really. A great champion of the arts, instilled an appreciation of the finer things in life in any student who chose to listen
I hated 2ndary school but your treatise of Hamlet led me onto a love for psychology, I have recently submitted my Phd and still love it. Like Staunton your inspire great things!
The most inspiring teacher I ever had. Really showed the power and beauty of English, shud hav been uni prof.
Excellent Teacher-treated pupils like people, made english interesting-can't have been a coincidence that I have written several books after being in his class.
One of the most amicable people you could meet; as a teacher or otherwise.
one of the smartest guys in the school, ridiculously clever.Harsh punishments, but a great english teacher.
its fun to stay YMCA, its fun to stay at the YMCA!! Still one of the soundest blokes you'l ever meet.
great teacher, very funny man. made me understand english, despite my hatred of the subject.
Was in Jim Byrnes class '78-'82. A great Teacher, a great person. They dont make teachers like this anymore.
Thanks for introducing us to going to the theatre. Been going to the Dublin Theatre Festival ever since !
A Top Man All Round...Cool Guy...Glad to be in his class.
Inspired a love of Shakespeare and the Renaissance.Under the eminence grise of an Irish sky in the grim 80s,he opened my mind to the colours of history.
Twenty years on - very well remembered. Inspirational. Many thanks.
Brilliant teacher, had him for history and got an A1, his method of taking notes works well, as long as you take them, can be very funny when he wants
Excellent teacher, always gave interesting classes and helpful feedback on essays. Very easygoing most of the time, but knew when to get the class moving.
excellent teacher, knowledgeable and can sustain interest......probably more suited to third level....really helped me enjoy and appreciate history
An intellectual, with a taste for the finer things in life.... More of a lecturer than a hands on teacher, but it works.
Easy going but could be a bit too easy going at times...
would be more suited to college lecturing but if you take notes he gives you all the info you need. Please learn to correct hw
A nice man but NEVER gives or corrects homework...how are we supposed to know our progress??? can be lazy and lacks enthusiasm
really he belongs lecturing in uni, but pretty sound. a little homework wouldn't go a miss though!
Mr. Byrne is a highly intelligent man who inspired in me an interest in history and English. He has his pets though. He'd be more suited to 3rd level teaching.
a great teacher, just lazy with regards to correcting homework,...... or remebering it, laways has time for students
One of the best teachers there in my time (late 70s). Very very intelligent man (did you know he knows Ancient Phoenician), classes were always good.
