A genuine honest man.He wasn't devious and he could command respect. He always had the interests of the school at heart and the school flourished under his tenure.
A brilliant Principal who commanded fear and respect. He was harsh but fair. He needed to be to keep control of such a big group of teenage boys!
I ALWAYS LIKED THE GUY. treated me with respect. but a seriously hard man.
well.a man that was feared. he was fair at times but fairness can sometimes rest more on weather you are a footballer or not. had my few close shaves but all in all he deserves respect for a fine Job.
he was a nice man and needed more support of the students!
Math was a nightmasre subject and Garvey was not to be messed with. But he was fair and I remember giving him a going away present of I think a Beatles present. he was most appreciative!
Without doubt the best teacher and principal the school ever had Was tough at times But he had to be The new Mels is his legacy Great interest in pupils well being too when they left Mels too
A fantastic teacher in School who gained great results for students and the school and a great friend if needed for advice Left a legacy of acheivments behind him when he left
As an ex-headboy of St Mel's and one who remembers well Frank Garvey's first day in St Mel's - I remember perhaps the kindest and most tallented priest I have ever met.
the man is an inspiration took no s...From anyone gained my resrect cause he only kicked ur a.. if u desreved it
I still cringe that this brute put fists into a friend of mine during a free class for no other reason only to make an example OF SOMEONE. 20 years still vivid
Its 10 years since I left Mels. This man inspired me more than any other single individual who ever tried to teach or guide me. He made men out of boys. Thanks.
Treated every one eaqually (footballer or not), kept everyone on their toes but all in all, he made the college what it is today.
When Fr. Garvey walked through the Assembly Hall everybody stopped, conversations were extinguished and only reignited when he had passed.Thats respect.
Fr. Garvey took St. Mel's reputation to a whole new level. The school wouldn't be what it is today without him.
I always got on with him.He had a tendency to either hate you or like you.Good ol' Frank you couldnt help but respect him even when you got in trouble
I wasnt a leader, was no good at football,he had no time for me but the G man helped me out in life outside of school and cant thank him enough.
Frank was/is the legend from Drunmsna only got hammered by him once(it was enough!)always fair, never easy, top man.He taught me as much about life as he did math
he'd walk into the assembly hall and everyone would leave.glennon walks in and no one leaves.need i say more.ledgend of st. mels.thnx gunner
Feared and respected and you new when he was in the Assembly 'doin the rounds' very tough but just what mels needed (needs!!!)
I came to mels after JC, I noticed he had all the teachers afriad of him, loved mels and the tradition, held the college strong
Gunner, was strict and tough. But if you had a problem in school he the man to go to,Fr.Garvey for pope,he could be
Gunner had respect full stop!!no-one messed with him and mel's benefitted.he was approachable if you needed him.excellent maths teacher.
Frank I know you still not on the missions as you wanted but you were a super teacher and mentor
Hard but fair. Great maths teacher and the best of the bunch that I ended up with. Respect.
very fair, ruled with fear but in this school that was a good thing, legend
He was a bully, but I reckon twas due 2 the pressure on him. He wanted the best 4 every1 and he got it. Fair play.
just think of arnold awartzenigger in a priests robe.Never saw the mans neck
it's nearly six years since i left mels and i still have nothing but praise for gunner. he once told me it's not the taking part that counts but winning. LEGEND
Inspirational Principal. Hard to believe the discipline he maintained. Respected, feared, admired, really he is a legend.
He acheived the results and the school excelled but it was done with a backdrop of fear. However,he was a truely excellent principal.Deep down he cared-i hope.
Best Maths teacher anyone could ever have. He got the respect thet he demanded. He made a great principel
never had him for class but was a very tough man....students had alot of respect for him, very good principle
what he did for st mels may never be understood. best principal ever seen
Absolute legend, couldnt have asked for a better principal, helpful and inspiring
An absolute brute. Beat us for years in the name of education. Delighted to see the back of him.
Outstanding former President of St. Mels college, always did what was best for the college and giving 110% always. Brilliant!!
Good man, Fr. Garvey, kept the place in ship shape, very inspiring speeches and also taught us the fact that there's more to school than books! Well done
